Cate Blanchett Aims To Be The Glue In Sandra Bullock’s Female ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ Team

You can never have enough stars. Which is why the possibility of Cate Blanchett joining the cast of the percolating, Sandra Bullock-led Ocean’s Eleven reboot makes perfect sense. The originals were laden with handfuls of the biggest Hollywood names, why shouldn’t the remake be as well?

Anyway, the project is still in development but what we do know is that it’s set to be directed by Gary Ross of The Hunger Games fame and that the working title is Ocean’s Ocho, a strong suggestion that the number of heisters will be pared down from 11 to eight. With Bullock in line to play the George Clooney role, it makes all the sense in the world that Blanchett will assume the persona first played by Brad Pitt. And that sounds like a lot of fun.

There’s one rather obvious catch to this move, which was first reported by The Playlist (breaker of the original remake news last year) — if Blanchett is going to play Pitt, who will Jennifer Lawrence, previously rumored to do some heisting, play?

She’s young enough to pull off the Matt Damon character but too young to be Carl Reiner or Elliot Gould. Maybe she’s got some secret, crazy gymnastic/contortionist skills we don’t know about that will allow her to be the next Shaobo Qin? Eh, unlikely. At any rate, it feels like Blanchett stepping in might mean having to bid adieu to Lawrence. Stay tuned for more details.
