Here’s Early Footage Showing Chris Farley Playing Shrek From 1997

With I Am Chris Farley making the rounds and making people cry, people are clearly in a mood to look back at the fonder times with the former SNL legend. That’s probably what led to this gem getting leaked from the vaults of Hollywood and onto the wild streets of the internet, despite a lack of mention in the documentary.

If you weren’t aware, Chris Farley was apparently the original choice to play Shrek in 1997 and did some test footage for the production, something that Farley’s brother Kevin mentioned in an interview with Yahoo, according to Consequence of Sound:

“Originally the Shrek character was a little bit more like Chris, like a humble, bumbling innocent guy…”

Chris recorded between 80 percent–90 percent of the film’s dialogue — however, following his death, filmmakers brought in his SNL cast mate Mike Myers as the new lead actor, and the rest was history.

The clip above just found its way on Reddit, sorta confirming this and making plenty of people wonder what the film would’ve been like with Farley’s involvement.
