Disney’s Bob Iger Proclaims That ‘Star Wars’ And Marvel Movies ‘Will Go On Forever’

As Shari Lewis and her cadre of puppet minions once warned us, there is a song that doesn’t end. Apparently, the exploits of Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe fall under that same umbrella. These are the ultra-lucrative movies that will not end. They’ll just go on and on, my friend. (Or at least they’ll go on until they’re really unprofitable.)

Disney CEO Bob Iger recently spoke with BBC Newsbeat and shared that these geeky properties will never leave us. He even dropped a hard “F” while talking about it. No, not f*ck. He said “forever” when talking about the assorted Marvel luminaries that appear under the Disney umbrella.

“Marvel, you’re dealing with thousands and thousands of characters – that will go on forever.”

Iger says he’s not too worried about audiences suffering “superhero fatigue” over the crowded (and sometimes caped) marketplace. He told the U.K. outlet that he doesn’t see fans getting tired of superhero motion pictures and says the presentation of these characters in the Disney/Marvel movies are what really snares in the audience.

Star Wars is also going to be given a heavy workout by the studio. Depending on your confidence in a Boba Fett spin-off actually seeing the light of day, there are four-to-five other films that will pop up under the sci-fi franchise’s cinematic banner. According to Iger, there’s definitely room for more once that run comes to a close.

“There will be more [Star Wars films] after that. I don’t know how many, I don’t know how often.”

Vague but promising! Speaking of upcoming Star Wars fare, Gareth Edwards’ stand-alone picture Rogue One is set for release on December 16, 2016.
