Donald Trump Weighs In On #OscarsSoWhite By Dragging In The BET Awards

The #OscarsSoWhite controversy continues after several celebrities have voiced concerns. Spike Lee confirmed he won’t attend the Oscars ceremony, and Jada Pinkett Smith hinted at a boycott with Will confirming the couple won’t hit the red carpet, either. Will also denied that their decision had much to do with his lack of a Concussion nomination, but Janet Hubert (the original Aunt Viv of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) waved away their concerns and said the Smiths are part of the problem.

Well, someone thought the world needed Donald Trump’s opinion on the subject, so he’s obliging. Speaking to Fox and Friends on the phone, Trump laid down his sudden vision of the truth:

“I saw somebody on your show today say, ‘Well, what do we do with BET?’ The whites don’t get any nominations, and I thought it was an amazing interview, actually. I’ve never even thought of it from that standpoint.”

Trump was talking about Stacey Dash, who celebrated her return from suspension by ripping into the BET Awards as “ludicrous” and full of “segregation.”

“I mean, I’ve watched over the years where African Americans have in fact received Academy Awards and have in fact been represented. And this is not one of those years, but over the years I’ve seen numerous black actors and African American actors receive awards and I think that’s great. This doesn’t happen to be one of those years.”

Trump has seen black actors recognized on previous occasions. He thinks that’s “great,” so he’s not sure what else to say, but he does agree with Stacey Dash (although he doesn’t know her name). He finally admits, “It’s a difficult situation.”
