Eli Roth is currently in talks to direct the big-screen adaptation Steve Alten’s New York Times best-seller Meg. The shark thriller was originally picked up by Disney in 1997, but fell into development limbo after shark flick Deep Blue Sea bombed at the box office.

Variety has the book’s synopsis which sounds promising enough:

In the book, the story revolves around two men who band together to neutralize an ancient shark that’s threatening the California coast. The Megaladon, considered one of the largest and most powerful predators in history, can reach a maximum length of 60 feet.

With the popularity of Syfy’s Sharknado films, those Mega Shark movies from Asylum, and Discovery’s Shark Week — where Roth will be hosting the late night show Shark After Dark — it looks like now may be the perfect time for a movie about a prehistoric shark to hit the big screen.
