Vin Diesel Is In Cuba For ‘Fast 8’ And He’s Teasing Some Sort Of Toretto Origin Story

Vin Diesel and company are down in Cuba right now getting production started on the eighth installment in the Fast & Furious franchise, Fast 8. So far we know very little about the project. What we’ve got: it will be directed by F. Gary Gray; Charlize Theron is the villain; Scott Eastwood is Kurt Russell’s new associate; some as-yet-unknown chunk of it will also take place in New York City; and Vin Diesel will mumble something about family, possibly while soaring through the sky in a neon Honda that has been outfitted with rocket blasters.

Hey, speaking of mumbling something about family…

Did you catch that last part, at the end, after the panoramic video selfie?

“We’re in Cuba, where the Torettos started.”

As far as I can tell, there are three possibilities here:

– One, Vin Diesel is implying that Fast 8 will contain flashbacks to his Cuban Toretto ancestors, like a Godfather Part II thing where his thin-mustached father or grandfather screams around Havana in a giant boat of a Chevy.

– Two, Vin Diesel is implying that there are still Torettos in Cuba, and that he might be there to visit them, hopefully depicted — if there is a God in heaven who cares about us at all — in a Nutty Professor-esque dinner scene where Vin Diesel plays all the Toretto relatives.

– Three, Diesel just got excited in the moment and declared that the Torettos hail from Cuba, and F. Gary Gray did a triple-take off-camera because now he has to figure out how to work that into the film somehow.

Really just wonderful news, whichever it is.
