New ‘Ghostbusters’ International Trailer Harkens Back To The First Movie

The third international trailer for Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters continues the trend of the international trailers being better than ours. The first stateside trailer became the most-disliked movie trailer on YouTube for predictably dumb reasons and for some valid reasons. (It wasn’t a great trailer, and — as Melissa McCarthy suggested — it made it sound as though this is a sequel set in the same universe when it isn’t.) Then the second stateside trailer debuted on Facebook instead of YouTube to avoid some of the vitriol which surprised director Paul Feig, annoyed Judd Apatow, and prompted Melissa McCarthy to hope some people find a friend.

The international trailers have been cut better, with the first one adding more Thor and the second one busting extra ghosts. This third international trailer is also markedly better than the first stateside trailer. It includes some new footage, like Kristen Wiig excitedly realizing ghosts are real, Chris Hemsworth being skeptical about the existence of ghosts, and Leslie Jones hoping a mannequin doesn’t answer when being spoken to, but that’s not going to end well. There’s also a reference back to the first movie, as spotted by Screen Rant:

Filmgoers can also catch a glimpse of a live-action test of the new proton packs by Gilbert, Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy), and Jillian Holtzman (Kate McKinnon), which isn’t entirely successful. The scene both acts as an homage to the classic elevator scene from the original film, as well as taking it a step farther and actually showing the trial and error process.

And hey, Dan Aykroyd liked it. Then again, he’s probably biased in that he’s in the movie and therefore got yet another ghost beej, per his standard contract:
