Han Solo’s ‘Star Wars’ Spin-Off Might Give Princess Leia Some Competition

Filming for the Han Solo-centric Star Wars spinoff doesn’t begin until 2017, but casting is currently underway. While Alden Ehrenreich will be the one to strap on that iconic blaster, the rest of the cast has yet to fill out. While many are speculating that Donald Glover is the favorite to put on a space cape as the smoothest man in the galaxy, Lando Calrissian, that is still mired in rumor. However, some of the latest casting news could give super fans a hint of what’s to come. Variety claims that Tessa Thompson (Creed), Zoe Kravitz (Mad Max: Fury Road, the combined DNA of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet), and Naomi Scott (Power Rangers) are currently testing for the female lead. While this could just be a great example of Disney bringing a little more diversity to the Kessel Run, it could be the introduction of Solo’s first wife, Sana Starros.

Starros was introduced in the latest run of Marvel comics that take place after A New Hope, confronting Han and claiming to be his wife. While the smuggler denied it (classic Han), it was eventually made clear that while they were married, it was only for a con, after which Solo swindled Starros out of her share. Disney has made it clear that all of the new films, comics, novels, etc. were the official Star Wars canon, so it would make sense to introduce the character if they were going to use her for future films.

Still, this is all tin foil hat speculation at this point. All of the women mentioned have sci-fi pedigrees, especially Thompson, who already has an in with Disney as she’s starring alongside Chris Hemsworth in Thor: Ragnarok. Whether or not they end up as the first Mrs. Solo or a new character, that is a promising bunch.
