Hugh Jackman Urges Fans To Wear Sunscreen After His Treatment For Skin Cancer

X-Man and Hollywood nice guy Hugh Jackman took to social media in order to spread the word about the health benefits of proper skin care. The actor had a basal cell carcinoma removed from his nose, and took the time to use his medical condition for a bit of advocacy.

An example of what happens when you don’t wear sunscreen. Basal Cell. The mildest form of cancer but serious, nonetheless. PLEASE USE SUNSCREEN and get regular check-ups.

I’ve never been to Australia, but something tells me that the rough and tumble people who spend their days avoiding giant snakes, spiders, and other things that could kill them don’t spend much time worrying about sunscreen. Hopefully Jackman, a Sydney native, can have a little influence on his countrymen and others.

This is not the first time that Jackman has had to deal with basal cell carcinomas. His wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, encouraged him to get a mole on his nose checked out in 2013, which uncovered his first basal cells. Jackman has had a total of five carcinomas removed since.

While basal cell carcinomas are relatively common and not invasive, they can lead to more aggressive cancers if left untreated. Cancer is always a scary thing, so here’s hoping Jackman recovers quickly and is back to making us all feel inadequate as he gets in shape for the final Wolverine film.
