Nicolas Cage is an anomaly. He’s won and been nominated for Oscars, but he’s also starred in Ghost Rider. He can take a subpar movie like The Wicker Man and make it memorable, if only for re-watching him triumphantly punching women in a bear suit over and over again. But he can also team up with Sam Rockwell for Matchstick Men and make the most of a small-scale story of two con men. The actor has made us laugh, cry, confused, and always leaves us wanting more (hairstyles, that is). Abed Nadir is the closest person to capturing Cage’s magic.
One of Cage’s unique gifts is his ability to morph a line that would be impossible for the average actor into a unique reading. It may be a testament to the scripts for the movies he appears in, but Cage never ceases to lay down memorable quotes. And just think of what Nic Cage could have done as a character in Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings. Just picturing Ed Stark with those crazy eyes and screaming about “Zeus’ butthole” makes me smile.
