Despite accusations of superhero fatigue, fans are still relentless with their speculation about upcoming Marvel films. James Gunn knows this, and has decided to tease (troll) impatient fans. In an Instagram post on Friday, the Guardians of the Galaxy director posed with a certain Asgardian relic, the hammer of Thor himself. Whether he just swiped it from the Marvel props department or if it confirmation that the blondest Avenger will be making an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Gunn sent fans into a tizzy over the crossover potential.
When questioned about the image on Twitter, Gunn seemed to shut down the possibility.

HOWEVER, that wording could be intentionally vague. After the events in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War, Thor has technically left the Avengers to deal with serious matters in Asgard, what with the impending doom of Ragnarok and Loki usurping the throne. Plus, if any Avenger is going to cross paths with our favorite space pirates, Thor’s proximity to space puts him at the top of the list.
Early reports claim that the Guardians will have a place in Avengers: Infinity War in 2018, but a teaser in Thor: Ragnarok ahead of the massive crossover event would be more than welcome. Either way, we won’t know anything for certain until next year, so have fun racking your nerdy brains until then.
