Jessica Chastain Makes A Great ‘Painkiller Jane’, And Not Just Because It Rhymes

Jessica Chastain — who you may know from Zero Dark Thirty (above), The Martian, the upcoming Miss Sloan, two Academy Award nominations, and for not being Bryce Dallas Howard — is going to be playing the titular Painkiller Jane, based on the graphic novel series by Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti. The character appeared in 22 Brides in 1995 before spinning off her own long-running, self-titled series.

Deadline reports:

Chastain, no stranger to playing tough female roles, will play Jane Vasko, a New York City street cop who gets recruited by the FBI to infiltrate a major NYC drug and human trafficking ring. In a near death experience, Jane develops exceptional regenerative abilities that give her a unique indestructible advantage. With nothing to live for and no way to die, Painkiller Jane becomes an unstoppable force of nature seeking revenge to those who destroyed her life as she leaves a path of death and destruction in her wake.

Chastain is also one of the producers on the adaptation through her new Freckle Films production company. By the way, Jessica Chastain badassedly started her own production company to produce more films with female leads, to provide better roles for herself and others. It’s good to be the queen.
