The Inevitable ‘Van Helsing’ Reboot Recruited ‘Prometheus’ And ‘Final Destination’ Writers

Shed no more tears, America. We are slowly but surely moving towards that Van Helsing reboot one of you is apparently clamoring for.

Variety has revealed that Jon Spaihts and Eric Heisserer have signed on to co-write the upcoming film. The new Van Helsing picture is being designed to fall under the umbrella of Universal’s shared classic movie monster universe. It will all kick off with a reboot of The Mummy and things will develop from there.

What credits do Jon Spaihts and Eric Heisserer have to boast about? Well, Spaihts wrote the original Prometheus script and penned the screenplay for the upcoming Doctor Strange movie. Heisserer’s résumé includes a few remakes/reboots (see: this decade’s versions of A Nightmare On Elm Street and The Thing) plus the Final Destination offering with David Koechner in it.

The reboot is not to be confused with the upcoming TV series. That said, you’re welcome to confuse them if you like. It’s nearly the weekend. You’ve earned it.

For those of you that like to keep track of such things, we’re now eleven years removed from 2004’s Van Helsing. Viva Laughlin star Hugh Jackman played the legendary vampire hunter and the film scored mediocre reviews although Roger Ebert gave it a ringing endorsement.

By the way, the movie’s website still works. If you’re on the hunt for some sweet AIM icons, they’ve got you covered.
