Goyle From The ‘Harry Potter’ Movies Is Now An MMA Fighter

In the wizarding world of Harry Potter, you’re only one spell away from becoming as hot as a dragon’s breath. It’s not that easy in real life, though. You have to exercise and not stuff your face with Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans and Butterbeer. But if you follow your workout plan and diet, you can go from looking like Neville Longbottom and Gregory Goyle to Matthew Lewis and Josh Herdman, who’s now an MMA fighter. There’s no spell that can protect you from a rear naked choke. (This is probably not true.)

Herdman, who played Draco Malfoy’s sidekick Goyle in all eight of the Harry Potter movies, made his MMA debut in London this past weekend, beating some guy who’s probably never even seen the Shrieking Shack by unanimous decision. The 28-year-old actor told the Daily Mirror, via Entertainment Weekly, that he’s been “training traditional Japanese jujitsu for nearly five years. It’s raw, exciting, and unpredictable. I find it more interesting than boxing although I appreciate the beauty and art in boxing. It also made sense to move onto MMA because of my jujitsu training.”

Herdman plans to continue acting, and he says mixing the two professions — performer by day, fighter by night — is “just a little bit like playing the lottery for a living.”

Just stay away from the cupcakes.
