Julia Roberts Is Making The Jump To Television With A New Limited Series

Julia Roberts is the quintessential movie star, but even she recognizes that many of the great roles are on television these days. Consequently, Variety reports that Roberts will be making the jump to television, starring in her first limited series. Fans have been waiting for Roberts to get her next great role, and Tomorrow Will Be Different could be her shot. The recently published novel from Maria Semple is a story of reinvention, and could be a meaty role for Roberts to sink her teeth into. According to the official synopsis,

Eleanor knows she’s a mess. But today, she will tackle the little things. She will shower and get dressed. She will have her poetry and yoga lessons after dropping off her son, Timby. She won’t swear. She will initiate sex with her husband, Joe. But before she can put her modest plan into action-life happens. Today, it turns out, is the day Timby has decided to fake sick to weasel his way into his mother’s company. It’s also the day Joe has chosen to tell his office-but not Eleanor-that he’s on vacation. Just when it seems like things can’t go more awry, an encounter with a former colleague produces a graphic memoir whose dramatic tale threatens to reveal a buried family secret. (via)

The entire series will take place over the course of a day, so, it’s basically a chick lit 24. At the moment, no networks have officially snatched up the project, but Roberts’ involvement is sure to make it a hot ticket in prestige television. Roberts previously starred in the HBO film, A Normal Heart, and it could appeal to the same audience as their upcoming series Big Little Lies. What I’m saying is that Roberts should probably start writing her Emmy victory speech now.
