The Rock’s ‘Jumanji’ Looks Very Different Than The Original

If it still seems weird to you that JumanjiJumanji! — is getting a remake, er, reboot, er, “continuation,” and that it’s going to star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who was playing for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League when the original came out, that’s because it is weird.

And it’s probably going to work.

The nice thing about “continuing” a movie everyone’s heard of and people like, but no one really loves, is that the director — in this case, Jake Kasdan (Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story) — can play around with the format; no one will be screaming “The Rock ruined my childhood.” Good thing, too, because the 2017 Jumanji — also featuring Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, and Nick Jonas — looks very different than 1995’s Jumanji, with Robin Williams and Bonnie Hunt. To use The Rock’s favorite word, it looks “smoldering.”

Kevin Hart revealed the first look at the full cast on Instagram, writing, “Day 1 of shooting Jumanji is officially in the can. We had a amazing first day. The chemistry & energy of our cast & crew was beyond amazing!!!! This movie is going to be dope as hell….Can’t wait to get back to work tomorrow.”

The Rock is sexy Indiana Jones; Kevin Hart is a sexy boy scout (?); Karen Gillan is a sexy tomb raider; and Jack Black, well, he’s wearing his King Kong outfit, but with a “dope as hell” bowtie. It’s a very different look than Robin Williams’ bushy beard. Hopefully Kasdan hasn’t upgraded the monkeys, though.
