Zack Snyder Explains Why ‘Justice League’ Will Be Less Grimdark Than ‘Batman V Superman’

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is a dark movie, both figuratively and literally. The same can be said of Warner Bros.’ other upcoming superhero flick, Suicide Squad. Both movies feature grumpy heroes doing things that push the boundaries of a PG-13 rating and appear to take place entirely at night. So, given this is how Warner Bros. is choosing to kick off the DC Extended Universe, can we expect future movies like Justice League to be just as dark and cynical?

Sounds like that won’t be the case. Perhaps sensing the public is wearying of the grimdark approach after early reactions to Batman v Superman, Justice League producer Deborah Snyder is promising the movie will shed some light on the DC landscape.

“Justice League is a bit lighter, because of some of these characters. Flash tends to be a little more comedic.”

Zack Snyder echoed his wife’s sentiments…

“One of the things that lightens it is having Flash and characters that are more, optimistic. Batman v Superman in particular is two characters who are at a crisis of conscience that brings them together.”

Sounds like we’re really going to be depending on that jokester The Flash to deliver us from the darkness. What do you folks think? Do you think the DC Extended Universe should lighten up? Or do they risk another Batman & Robin debacle if they don’t keep their gods grounded?
