This ‘Legend’ Poster Uses Tom Hardy’s Head To Brilliantly Cover Up A Bad Review

The marketing minds behind Tom Hardy’s highly anticipated new movie, Legend, sure seem smart. They’ve managed to disguise a bad review by The Guardian using Tom Hardy’s twin characters’ heads in this new poster.

The movie, in which Hardy plays both Ronald and Reggie Kray, notorious London gangsters, so far has a 75 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Yet Guardian film critic Benjamin Lee gave the movie only two stars, calling the movie “a disappointingly shallow take on a fascinating period of time.” Ouch.

Except that whoever designed this poster is not taking this review lying down. They sandwiched Lee’s two stars in between both Kray twins’ heads, making it seem as if Hardy’s handsome mug and handsome mug-in-glasses are covering up the remaining stars, as the AV Club points out. This tricks the poster viewer into thinking The Guardian gave the film four or five stars, like the other reviewers featured on the poster.

Depending on your reading, Lee, who pointed out the trick in the tweet above, is actually impressed with how the Hardy heads frame his review, or incensed. I guess it’s bad to reward tricky behavior, but this kind of makes me want to see the movie even more when it comes out on October 2nd.
