Leonardo DiCaprio Knows What He Wants His Next Role To Be

The Cold War continues. The United States has Leonardo DiCaprio; Russia has this overweight Leonardo DiCaprio doppelgänger. The United States nominated him for an Oscar (many, many times); Russia gives him a “Russian Oscar.” Leonardo DiCaprio has played multiple American villains who think they’re heroes, like Jordan Belfort and J. Edgar Hoover; Leonardo DiCaprio will play a Russian super-villain who thinks he’s a savior, Vladimir Putin. If he has his way, at least (much like how a certain bear had his way with Leo).

Speaking to Germany’s Welt am Sonntag newspaper while promoting his new film The Revenant, DiCaprio described the controversial politician as “very, very, very interesting”, adding: “I would love to play him.”

He continued: “I think there should be more films about Russian history because it has many stories worthy of Shakespeare. That is fascinating for an actor. Lenin also would be an interesting role. I would like also to star as Rasputin.” (Via)

DiCaprio first met the Super Bowl ring-stealing Russian president in 2010, at a conference about endangered tigers, naturally. They “talked only about the protection of these magnificent animals,” DiCaprio said, “not politics.”

Playing Putin should be easy for DiCaprio, who just spent 10 months filming The Revenant in the unrelenting cold, or as most Russians call it, “summer.”
