Neill Blomkamp Wants You To Know He’s Not Trying To Undo ‘Alien 3’ Or ‘Alien: Resurrection’

Neill Blomkamp
recently signed on to direct a new Alien film and that is pretty damn great. The District 9 and Chappie director recently told reporters he wants his film to feel like a “genetic sibling” to the James Cameron classics. The comment triggered an intense debate on the internet — pitting detractors and fans of the Alien 3 director’s cut (myself included) against one another. In response, Neill Blomkamp clarified his stance to AlloCine:

“My favorites are the first two movies, so I want to make a film that’s connected to ‘Alien’ and ‘Aliens’. That’s my goal. I’m not trying to undo ‘Alien 3’ or ‘Alien: Resurrection’, I just want it to be connected to ‘Alien’ 1 and 2.”

Sigourney Weaver, who’s also in the video, seems pretty excited to revisit the character of Ripley one last time. She especially wants to give fans of the franchise a true sense of closure.

Now that Blomkamp has cleared the air, it looks like his vision and Weaver’s excitement could be the key ingredients for one hell of a movie.
