Poor Miles Teller Said Doing ‘Divergent’ Made Him Feel ‘Dead Inside’ :-(

There are few actors I actively root against, but Miles Teller might be one of them. The star of The Spectacular Now and Ingmar Bergman’s That Awkward Moment (kidding, people), Miles Teller does milquetoast middlebrow like none other. Now the star, just fresh off the success of Whiplash, revealed to W Magazine that doing Divergent made him feel ‘dead inside.’

“I didn’t have an interesting part, and I’d taken the film for business reasons: It was the first movie I’d done that was going to have an international audience. I called my agent and said, “This sucks.””

God, I mean, what a guy. I can’t even imagine what it’s like to suffer through some Hollywood blockbuster, just so you can make an honest million(s). Does he have a support structure? How did come out of international stardom . . . alive?

tA former homecoming king and NYU student, Teller appears to have suffered little and experienced even less. Some of his other quotes are even more telling, like the moment where he literally compares himself to Elvis:

“My main dream is to play Elvis. I think he and I look alike and do a lot of similar things well: sing, dance, and I think he played sports.”

One of the greatest musicians of the twentieth century, played by one of the most overrated actors of the 21st. The mysterious, magical connection? “I think he played sports.”

Still, there were other moments in the interview that managed to be shockingly worse, like this one:

“I was in good shape from Divergent. Damien Chazelle, the director of Whiplash told me, ‘Stop Working Out! Don’t go outside!’ He wanted me pale and doughy. This is the first movie where I shut myself off from the world. It was, by far, the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”

Sitting inside your house and eating Lil Debbie cakes is the HARDEST thing you’ve ever done? That is the literally the easiest thing I could possibly imagine, and quite possibly, my lifelong dream. Pale? Doughy? Isolated? Isn’t that what we all want?

Whiplash will be released in theaters October 10th, 2014.
