New ‘Rogue One’ Clips Show The Opening Of The Movie, Because We Have To Start Somewhere

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is coming to theaters December 16th, and we’ve already seen almost 30 minutes of it (reviewed here). Disney has been generous with the clips lately, and today we have even more. We already know the film opens with Director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) coming for Jyn Erso’s (Felicity Jones) father Galen (Mads Mikkelsen), who had been helping with kyber crystal research which was ultimately used to build the Death Star. Erso owed a debt to Krennic for saving his family from kidnappers, as we learned in the in-canon Star Wars tie-in novel Catalyst.

Galen had second thoughts when he learned his research was being used for weapons rather than renewable energy, and he attempted to hide. Krennic tries to change his mind, as seen in the clip above:

“We were this close to providing peace and security for the galaxy.”

“You’re confusing peace with terror.”

“Well, you have to start somewhere.”

Well, that escalated quickly.

We also have a clip of Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed) coming up with the name Rogue One.

Here is an international trailer for China, introduced by famous Chinese acting veterans Donnie Yen and Jiang Wen, who play warrior monk Chirrut Îmwe and soldier Baze Malbus, respectively. The trailer starts at 1:12 if you want to skip the intro:

Finally, here’s a TV spot to believe in.
