The Russo Brothers Discuss The Reasons Why ‘Avengers 4’ Isn’t Part Of ‘Infinity War’

It’s tough to keep up with all the news put forth by Marvel regarding its raft of big and small screen properties. But the announcement that the next two Avengers movies would focus on the Infinity War and be broken up into two parts was pretty much impossible to miss.

In May, as they were basking in the glow of the tremendous reception given to Captain America: Civil War, directors Joe and Anthony Russo alerted the masses that those two standalone Infinity War movies would no longer be titled Part 1 and Part 2 — which was officially confirmed by Marvel last month. This past week they explained their rationale, per CinemaBlend, and also teased a bit more info as to what the new titles will be and how they relate to the franchise as a whole.

“We wanted the movie to be very different and distinctive, you know. There’s certainly cross-pollination between characters and some story-arcs, but you know, the first movie is very clearly Avengers: Infinity War and, in time, we will reveal what the second film is.”

That’s Joe Russo with the explanation. Soon thereafter, brother Anthony relayed that as far as the now secret title of the second Infinity War flick (and fourth edition of The Avengers), “you’ll learn that, but not for quite some time.”

Hopefully it won’t be too long. We already know that the Guardians of the Galaxy are in on Infinity War (thanks for that tidbit, Vin Diesel) and that Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel probably is too. Seeing how difficult it appears to be for all the folks involved to keep so many secrets, “quite some time” feels something like next Thursday.
