Kirsten Dunst Dismissed The Latest ‘Spider-Man’ Reboot With A Simple ‘Who Cares?’

Comic book movie reboots are par for the course these days, if not fully expected. If a movie bombs, it doesn’t truly matter because another reboot can’t be more than a few years away. Even for successful movies, such as Spider-Man and the various X-Men franchises, money only begets the desire for more money from a younger and prettier cast and storyline. Such as it is for this summer’s Spider-Man: Homecoming: it’s probably not necessary from a story perspective and only slightly desired by fans, but it looks like a ton of fun and loads of people will go see it because they love the character. Even the relatively panned Amazing Spider-Man reboot made nearly $2 billion at the global box office.

But former Mary Jane Watson actress Kirsten Dunst doesn’t have the best opinion of the endless string of reboots and the big studios’ habit of dipping into the same story well repeatedly, saying to Marie Claire as part of their recent cover story,

‘We made the best ones, so who cares? I’m like, “You make it all you want.” They’re just milking that cow for money. It’s so obvious. You know what I mean?’

It’s not like studios need the permission from former starts to reboot series, or even care, but it’s telling that someone who had such a major part in the character becoming popular for current audiences couldn’t care less about Tom Holland’s adventure swinging from skyscrapers and jet planes.

Plus, you can never top one of the greatest scenes in cinematic history, so it only makes sense that they should stop trying.
