‘Star Wars Battlefront 2’ Is On The Way And Will Focus On The New Disney Movies

Star Wars Battlefront is a pretty solid shooter, but some have questioned the lack of content from the new Star Wars movies. Where’s Rey? Where’s Kylo Ren? How about a stage set at Maz Kanata’s castle, or on the snowy surface of the Starkiller Base? We did get one map set on Jakku, but it was set in the past, long before the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Well, content from the Disney movies is coming to Star Wars Battlefront, but you’re going to have to buy an all-new game to play it. During a recent earnings call, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen confirmed that Star Wars Battlefront 2 is coming, and promised the game will deliver “bigger and better worlds” and mostly focus on content from “the new movies.”

EA is taking a cue from Disney and planning a steady stream of new Star Wars games. According to Jorgensen, Battlefront 2 and the Star Wars title from Dead Space-developers Visceral Games, are both coming next year. Because this was a financial call, Jorgensen might have been talking about financial years, which run from April to April, which could mean Star Wars Battlefront 2 comes out holiday 2017 while the Visceral game comes out early 2018. Or maybe he was just talking regular old calendar years. It’s not entirely clear at this point.

Are you interested in another Star Wars Battlefront? The prospect of content from the new movies is cool, but hopefully that’s not all the sequel delivers. I’m hoping for much-expanded single player options, and perhaps more of a focus on strategy and character building. Basically, more depth all around.

Of course, 2017 is a while away, and for now EA continues to support the current Star Wars Battlefront. The next DLC pack, which includes the Cloud City of Bespin and Lando Calrissian and Dengar as playable characters, arrives in June. A Death Star update will arrive this holiday season.
