The First Trailer For ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Is Here

It’s the moment everyone at Celebration was waiting for: the first trailer for Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi. The follow-up to The Force Awakens, which made over $2 billion at the box office (including $936 million in the U.S. alone, an all-time record), begins where Episode VII left off, with Rey presenting Luke Skywalker his lightsaber on Ahch-To. The clip doesn’t reveal much about the film’s plot — we know what the guy who holds the “nuclear football” looks like, but not the premise of a movie about robots in space — but that’s not what it’s important, at least not yet. For now, it’s nice to see Rey, Finn, Poe, and Luke Skywalker (who gets to speak this time!) again.

Speaking of our boy Luke: all those years of isolation have made him as grumpy as Uncle Owen. “It’s time for the Jedi to end,” he says in the trailer, and a million Star Wars fans suddenly cried out in terror.

The Last Jedi — which was written and directed by Looper‘s Rian Johnson, and stars returning cast members Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher (R.I.P.), Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, and Lupita Nyong’o, as well as newcomers Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern, and Kelly Marie Tran — comes out on December 15.

But you can see it before your jealous friends.

Here’s a closer look at some of the trailer’s coolest shots.
