‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2’ Turns Into A Live-Action Cartoon In A New Clip

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows has an interesting problem: How does it follow up the first one? Does it try to be a bit more grounded, or does it go full cartoon? It looks like we’ve got our answer in this new clip, and they’re definitely going full cartoon.

If you’re not interested in seeing a somewhat cheesy stage show, just skip ahead to :39 on the above clip and get ready to watch something truly ridiculous. Mikey has giant robot arms swinging nunchucks, Raph motorcycle surfs, and of course this converted garbage truck sprays manhole covers, just like the original toy from the ’80s. Although, we do have to wonder how a manhole cover can home in on what appears to be a heist ninja, and how the Turtles justify causing what looks to be at least three serious traffic accidents in the space of a minute. Hopefully heist ninjas keep their seatbelts buckled and have good insurance.

That said, though, this sequel looks agreeably goofy, which is really what you want out of a movie starring four anthropomorphic turtles who know martial arts. We’ll find out if it stays agreeably goofy or strays into Vanilla Ice cameo territory June 3.
