We’re nearly into the home stretch for the big showdown between Batman and Superman on the big screen, and pretty soon, we’ll all finally get some sort of answer to that age old question thanks to Batman V Superman. Can Batman really beat Superman? That is unless you read the comic books and know the history at work, including the numerous Kryptonite-aided beatdowns we’ve seen in the past.
Of course there was the powersuit showdown from The Dark Knight Returns, where Green Arrow’s Kryptonite arrow helps to even the odds for an older Batman to take down the Man Of Steel. A similar showdown occurred in the Hush storyline, where a Kryptonite ring is brought into play in order to stop a Superman under the spell of Poison Ivy. You also have to count the showdown in Superman: Red Son, if only for the bad ass nature of Russian Batman and his, sadly failed, plan to defeat both Superman and Wonder Woman. He blew himself to bits, but the spirit lived on.
Batman V Superman is likely going to draw from all of these to create a showdown fit for the big screen, but the end of the day will show both heroes standing side-by-side. We know this given the real life circumstances to the franchise and due to the true need for a villain in the film, likely in the form of Lex Luthor or Doomsday if rumors are believed.
