‘Wonder Woman’ Director Patty Jenkins Is ‘Super Confused’ About The Bad ‘Suicide Squad’ Reviews

After the critical drubbing of both Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad, director Patty Jenkins finds herself in a unique, perhaps slightly uncomfortable position. All eyes are on her Wonder Woman to “save” the DC Extended Universe, which is a big opportunity, but also a huge amount of pressure. You can bet Jenkins is going to be dealing with a lot of notes from worried Warner Bros. executives over the next year.

Suicide Squad may not have done the DC Extended Universe any favors, but Jenkins still took to Twitter to strongly defend the film, and take issue the critical reviews…

Is Jenkins being genuine? It seems like she is. Sure, Suicide Squad doing well benefits her, but she’s more enthusiastic than she needs to be. A simple “Go see Suicide Squad, it’s fun!” would have covered her politically.

For the record, I do think Wonder Woman will end DC’s unlucky streak. The movie’s first trailer was fantastic, its characters and romantic storyline look fresh and appealing, and the public seems enthusiastic. Hopefully Jenkins doesn’t end up as blindsided by her own reviews as she was by Suicide Squad‘s.

Suicide Squad hits theaters tomorrow, and Wonder Woman arrives June 2, 2017.
