This Diabolical Mashup Of 100 Christmas Classics At Once Will Turn Your Brain To Nog

Like egg nog, gift cards, and arguing about what is “reasonable staining” for a rented Santa outfit, Christmas music is the sort of thing that can divide people around the holidays. Some revel in seasonal tunes, some despise them, and sensible folks like myself know to just throw on that Boney M Christmas record everyone likes, including grandma. (Especially grandma.) For those of you that love all forms of Christmas music, you may have met your match.

An enterprising maniac named Petter Rudwall (under the name Grinchy) has managed to create a holiday mashup so impossibly irritating that it’s worth its weight in frankincense. Featuring the title/warning “The Chaos Carol,” Rudwall has managed to the 100 most popular seasonal tunes into one fascinating monstrocity. Mariah Carey, Pentatonix and Elvis Presley smack into each other in this strange circle pit of noise and good tiding while taunting your brain into picking out certain familar sounds.

“The feedback on the first draft of the song helped me to realise that too much isn’t going to cut it this time,” wrote Rudwall in a corresponding Medium piece. “So I took another approach and decided to mix all the songs according to their individual placement on the Top 100 list, so that the more popular songs takes up more space in the final mixdown etc. I applied some compression, enhanced dynamics and reverb at the end, just to spice things up a tad. This really helped the final track to become just enough chaotic.”

In case you needed confirmation, Rudwall isn’t all that nutty about “plastic” Christmas music, but you don’t need to be grumpy about these sorts of things to dive into the madness. It’s all waiting for you and your tested patience!
