D'Angelo Made His First U.S. On-Stage Appearance In 12 Years This Morning

How does it feel? Oh, it feels good because R&B singer D’Angelo’s back, baby.

The reclusive R&B singer made his first live U.S. appearance in 12 years at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival early Sunday morning, surprising a few thousand fans during Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson’s Superjam session.

D’Angelo and his all-star band powered through a 90-minute jam session Sunday morning that included Jimi Hendrix’s “Have You Ever Been to Electric Ladyland,” Parliament Funkadelic’s “Funky Dollar Bill,” Led Zeppelin’s “What Is and What Should Never Be” and The Beatles’ “She Came in Through the Bathroom Window,” but no new music. No video from the performance has made its way onto YouTube yet (UPDATE: there’s video below), but according to live reports, the man known as “R&B Jesus” sounded engaged and looked fit and like he was having a grand ol’ time — hopefully the good vibes remain long enough for a new album and tour. I STILL hear people talking about the famed “The Voodoo Tour.” Damn me for being 13 years old at the time and thinking DMB was soulful, instead…
