To Mastodon And Beyond: 7 Unexpected Bands That Contributed Songs To Disney Movies

WHO’S READY TO SHOTGUN PBR WHILE WATCHING PIXAR’S MONSTERS UNIVERSITY?

Metal monsters Mastodon have been tapped to contribute to the soundtrack of Monsters University, the upcoming prequel to Pixar’s Monsters Inc. The film isn’t out until June 21 of next year, so fans will have to wait with bated monster breath until then to hear what the band comes up with. (Via)

Who knew John Goodman was such a big fan of sludge metal? Mastodon is the least (and most bad ass) Disney band ever, but that doesn’t mean they’re the only unlikely group to have a song in a House of Movie film. Here are seven other bands and artists that don’t exactly scream family friendly fun times.

Movie: Tron
Song: “1990’s Theme” by Journey

Movie: Sky High
Song: “Please, Please Please Let Me Get What I Want” by Elefant (f*ck yeah Smiths cover)

Movie: Robin Hood
Song: “Oo De Lally” by Roger Miller (of “King of the Road” fame)

Movie: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
Song: “Wunderkind” by Alanis Morissette (nothing like going down on Dave Coulier while watching Narnia)

Movie: Tron Legacy
Song: “Derezzed” by Daft Punk

Movie: A Goofy Movie
Song: “Stand Out” by Tevin Campbell (originally, Powerline was going to be voiced by Bobby Brown, but, to quote Wikipedia, he “had some songs recorded but was cut due to drug problems”)

Movie: The Rocketeer
Song: “Begin the Beguine” by Melora Hardin (a.k.a. Jan from The Office)
