Final Track: 7 Must-Hear Songs Of The Week

It’s impossible to cover each bit of new music that comes out during the week, so every Friday, we’ll be doing an end of the week music roundup. It’s called Final Track, and we’ll count off a few songs released during the week that are worth giving a listen to.

Today, we’ve got selections from Queens of the Stone Age, Pusha T, the National, and more.

“My God Is the Sun” by Queens of the Stone Age

A few weeks ago, we shared a live version of “My God Is the Sun,” the first single from Queens of the Stone Age’s upcoming album, …Like Clockwork, due out in June. Here’s the much heavier studio version.

“Don’t Swallow the Cap” by the National

“I have only two emotions/Careful fear and dead devotion.” That is the most National-y of National lyrics. The production of “Don’t Swallow the Cap,” however, sounds different than their past work; the song’s given more room to breathe, and Matt Berninger dueting with himself is a nice little, effective trick that works magnificently well.

“Numbers On the Boards” by Pusha T

“Shattered Me” by Bass Drum of Death

“Stoned-in-outer-space” is a phrase that ought to appear in more press releases, like it did in Bass Drum of Death’s announcement for their upcoming self-titled sophomore album. The term doesn’t really fit “Shattered Me,” unless you imagine getting high in space feeling like your body is made of fuzz. In which case, it’s perfect.

“Anxiety” by the Scarfs

Dinosaur Jr. gone jangle pop, with squiggly guitar lines and distorted vocals. A band worth keeping an eye on.

“I Will Steal You Back” by Jimmy Eat World

Yes, Jimmy Eat World is still around, and they’re still cranking out pop-punk masterpieces. They’ll never run out of hooks that’ll immediately feel familiar.

“Banana Clipper” by Killer Mike and El-P

Ninety seconds of a new song from Killer Mike and El-P is all we need to get excited for their upcoming collaborative album. They care not for anyone’s throne.
