Hear An Unreleased Acoustic Version Of The Smashing Pumpkins’ ’1979′

By / 07.18.13

With every nonsensical bit of jibber-jabber that leaks out of Billy Corgan’s mouth, it gets harder and harder to remember that the Smashing Pumpkins used to be awesome. They still are, too, if you only listen to the band’s first four albums (from Gish and Adore) and stay FAR away from Machina II/The Farts & Farts of Fart Music.

Consider this your monthly reminder of their former greatness then, in the form of an only-the-good-stuff box set

Next week, EMI will unpackage the next release in its its extensive reissue campaign of the Smashing Pumpkins’ pre-Oceania discography: an expanded version of the 1996 box set, The Aeroplane Flies High. Adding to the 33-song original tracklist that “explains the jump from Siamese to Mellon Collie,” the reissue includes a 90 bonus cuts culled from unreleased demos, alternate takes, and live recordings.

Hear an acoustic version of the majestic “1979″ here, or listen to the original for the 193,293rd time below.
