Legendary Soul Singer Lester Chambers Was Attacked Onstage For Comments He Made About Trayvon Martin

By / 07.15.13

Lester Chambers, a member of the legendary 1960s soul act the Chamber Brothers, was allegedly assaulted at a concert in California on Saturday night, after comments he made about the George Zimmerman verdict. According to the Guardian, while introducing a cover of Curtis Mayfield’s “People Get Rready,” Chambers, who started an Internet campaign last year to publicize the lack of royalty payments he’s received for his work — especially for the Brothers’ top-20 hit “Time Has Come Today” — said that “if Mayfield were still alive, the lyric ‘there’s a train a-comin’ would be changed to ‘there’s a change a-comin’,’ in response to Martin’s death.”

Almost immediately Dinalynn Andrews Potter leapt on to the stage – “like an acrobat”, according to Chambers’ wife. “She had a crazed look in her eye,” a witness told the Times. “I saw the devil there.” She shoved the singer before anyone else could react; Chambers, 73, was eventually taken to hospital, receiving treatment for “bruised rib muscle and nerve damage”. Andrews Potter, 43, was arrested and charged with suspicion of battery, while Chambers “will be up and running soon”, according to his son. (Via)

This is an interesting story in and of itself, but I want to know more about that witness. I’m not saying Bobby Boucher’s momma gave that anonymous quote, but I’m not not saying she didn’t give it, either. (She did.)
