On The Colbert Report last week, Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, in answering a question about blue meth being the one true love in Walter White’s life, replied, “I think he’s coming back for his Precious and his Precious is the blue meth and the lab, the lab he constructed.” Or in the sic’d words of Bonnie Rose:
When Stephen Colbert talked to Vince Gilligan about the song El Paso used in the season finale of Breaking Bad, he asked if Felina was Jesse or the blue meth, and Vince basically said Felina was the blue meth. Viewed that way, the song El Paso matches up with not only the scene it was used in and the season finale, but the entire series. So I put together the rest of it to the whole song, at least as I saw it, before and after the actual scene from the finale.
Who is Bonnie Rose? She’s the Internet hero who synced up scenes from Breaking Bad with Marty Robbins’s “El Paso,” the cassette Walt finds in his stolen car’s glove department. The only person more thankful than me for the sudden resurgence in popularity in Marty Robbins is whomever owns the Marty Robbins’s estate.
