The Original Pizza-Themed Band Is ‘Gonna Kill’ Macaulay Culkin’s Pizza Underground

In New York City, there’s Ray’s Pizza. There’s also Ray’s Original Pizza, Famous Ray’s Pizza, and World-Famous Original Ray’s Pizza. They all claim to be the first, the greatest, the greasiest (in that, they’re all winners), but one can legally claim FIRSTsies: Ray’s Pizza…which closed in 2008. It’s now Prince Street Pizza. So going off this cheesy analogy, the Pizza Underground, Macaulay Culkin’s pizza-themed Velvet Underground cover band, is Famous Ray’s Pizza; Personal & the Pizzas are Ray’s Pizza. (I officially hate the word “pizza.”)

Personal & the Pizzas describe themselves as “3 Greasy Goons from Jersey write Rock n Roll songs about Girls, Hanging Around, Startin Trouble, Partying, Beatin Up Nerds, Delinquency, Rockin and Rollin, Eatin Pizza, Drinkin Beer, Fightin, Cars, and Everything Else 3 Greaseballs from the Street might sing about.” Their debut LP, Raw Pie, featuring chart-toppers like “I Don’t Wanna Be No Personal Pizza” and the insanely catchy, Stooges-indebted “Pepperoni Eyes,” came out in 2010, when the Pizza Underground were still a bunch of unripe tomatoes.

eMusic reached out to Personal & the Pizzas for their feelings about what Culkin’s doing. They’re not happy.
