Mastodon is David Letterman’s dream band.
They’re super-loud, badass, and the drummer is the singer, and we all know how Letterman feels about drummers. They performed the ass-tastic “The Motherload” from Once More ‘Round the Sun on Late Show last night, sans twerking backup dancers. To make up for it, guitarist Brent Hinds donned a fake afro and banged a cowbell, perhaps in a nod to SNL?
Whatever the case, Letterman seemed to enjoy what was happening. “My god!” he yelled, most likely because his god is also a psychedelic plant-demon thing.
