The New ‘Guitar Hero’ Wants To Give You Stage Fright With Your Rock Star Experience

This is not your dad’s Guitar Hero. The long-awaited return of the musical video game franchise is looming in the not-so-distant future and new details have emerged regarding the specifics of the latest iteration of the game you pregamed with at college.

In an interview with The Daily Dot, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirschberg said that the goal of the new game is “literally to give people stage fright.” The POV display will allow gamers to look out at a full-motion crowd while strumming their notes and 360-degree audio will cause instruments to fade in and out as the characters organically move across the stage.

Additionally, the new controller features three, two-button rows as opposed to the single row of five colored buttons you grew up with. Essentially, the only things about a real rock show not available in the forthcoming Guitar Hero Live are the lines for the port-a-potties and the sweaty dudes pushing their way to the front when the band starts up a radio single.
