Last month, Texas police officer Billy Spears was suspended and sent to counseling for taking a photo with “his deputy dogg,” Snoop Dogg, as it “reflected poorly on the department.” Spears is now suing the DPS for this ludicrous suspension, but his boss insists that Snoop Dogg is a force of evil who is not appropriate company for a member of the force.
DPS Director Steve McCraw called Snoop a “dope-smoking cop hater” who “lampooned” Spears into taking a photograph. Dope-smoking? No argument there, though how many people call marijuana “dope” anymore? Hater? Snoop is one of the least-hating/hated guys in the rap industry, and a legend at his craft.
Taking a picture with any celebrity while in full uniform is not the most professional look in the world, but how often does Snoop walk by, ready to smile for your camera? For an off-duty cop working an extra shift at a concert, passing up all of those Instagram likes would be a crime in and of itself.
