Lightning never strikes twice — at least so goes the saying. Unfortunately for music lovers attending the Rock Am Ring festival this weekend in Mendig, Germany, that expression is nothing but a myth.

According to police officials, “33 people were placed under observation in nearby hospitals” after two lightning strikes touched down within the concert’s camping grounds. I doubt the crowd wanted that kind of electrifying experience.

The first strike occurred around 1 a.m. local time Saturday, shortly after Marilyn Manson’s set wrapped up. The second hit came just a few hours later at 4 a.m. Of those being treated, about eight were festival employees. Thankfully, all are said to be in “good health,” according to BBC News.

Annually, Rock am Ring usually draws more than 90,000 fans over the course its three-day run. This year’s lineup is highlighted by Foo Fighters, Slipknot, The Prodigy, and Motörhead. The festival’s organizers have stated that despite the incident, the event will continue as planned with Foo Fighters slated to headline on Sunday. Here’s hoping Mother Nature doesn’t stand in the way of Dave Grohl making another young fan’s dreams come true.
