It’s been more than two weeks since producer Deadmau5 started a beef on social media, which is like a decade in Deadmau5 years, so it was definitely time.
On Tuesday, the EDM star went on an extensive rant on his Tumblr, calling producers who don’t play live versions of their songs at shows “f*cking CD playing dipsh*ts,” and blaming them for ruining EDM.
He went on to question why producers would even bother to use CDs when they actually know how to use technology to make cool sounds, writing, “I AM CONFUSED. Are you or are you not a guy who can use a computer to make music? Because you’re making in upwards of $200k to play a f*cking CD… so… wait. Why?”
Mr. mau5 even touched on Noel Gallagher’s recent comments about EDM at festivals. The former Oasis member said, “If a dude in a hat and a pair of fake DJ decks pressing play on a CD player is what it’s all about, that’s quite a bleak future.” In his own rant, Deadmau5 wrote, “I think this hits the core of what Noel Gallagher was hinting at. Not EDM in general.”
He finished his post with a plea for artists making electronic music to quit being lazy and to “stop f*cking up ‘EDM’ with your f*cking bullsh*t lazy CD playing, and get to f*cking work like the many others who are…”
