On Saturday night, Kelly Clarkson performed to a packed house in Toronto. She included a surprise cover of Taylor Swift‘s “Blank Space” to the crowd’s delight.
Clarkson put a new spin on the track by slowing the song down and losing the peppy feel of Swift’s radio version. Swift adored Clarkson’s effort and praised her on Twitter. These two have been pals for years, and as everyone knows, Swift’s crew is the place to be for young female celebrities.
This isn’t the first time Clarkson has covered a Swift tune. In 2014, she covered “Shake It Off,” with a nod of respect to her friend: “Seriously, everybody gives Taylor Swift a hard time, but she can write a hook. I’m just sayin’.” Indeed.
