Watch The Joy Formidable’s Modern Day Cover Of The ‘Twin Peaks’ Theme Song

We recently learned that we may have to wait a little longer for the reboot of David Lynch’s iconic series Twin Peaks. While we might not get new surrealist adventures from Dale Cooper until 2017, we have a little something new today from Welsh indie rockers The Joy Formidable.

“Falling” by Julee Cruise, known best to most as the theme to Twin Peaks, was one of the most notable TV theme songs of the 1990s. In fact, the track would eventually go on to win a Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. What most people don’t know is that the track isn’t just an instrumental; David Lynch helped pen lyrics to the dream pop theme, as well.

While the Joy Formidable’s cover is of the instrumental version we’re probably most familiar with, you can make up your own lyrics if you want. “Damn — fine piece of pie/Lau–ra Palmer’s dead.” Okay, that kind of sucked, but they do a much better job than us.
