U2 Fans Booed The Woman Who Helped Bono After His Cycling Accident

Turns out there’s a limit to the goodwill U2 fans will show you for saving Bono. *cancels elaborate kidnapping plans*

U2 performed the seventh show of their eight-show stint at Madison Square Garden on July 30. The woman who called for help after Bono’s cycling accident in Central Park last year was there and managed to get herself booed by a good chunk of the crowd.

Bono introduced the woman to the crowd claiming that she’s a part of the reason that “I am here today.” Via the Associated Press:

“When I crashed my bike here in the city, a beautiful girl made a phone call to 911. She’s from Denver, but she’s here tonight. And so is Engine 44, the firefighters that picked me up off the ground.”

Bono then passed the mic to the woman, and things went south quickly.

“So, I have to clarify, it’s Alyssa and I’m from D.C., not Denver… Here’s what happened: I was running in Central Park, there was an accident, obviously I had to stop and help because I’m not from New York, I’m from Virginia, where people are nice.”

So, I have to clarify: She’s from NOVA. That’s not Virginia. And the word for people from NOVA is “rich,” not “nice.”

The crowd booed Alyssa because that’s what you do when someone trashes your city on-mic inside one of the city’s most recognized venues. Presumably, Bono kept her safe by ushering her out of the venue waving the giant white flag from the War tour.
