Banksy Is Opening A ‘Bemusement Park’ Featuring Run The Jewels, Pussy Riot, And More

Banksy is obviously no stranger to grabbing headlines, and it looks like he has no plans to change his way. The street artist is opening a Disney-themed “bemusement park” in Weston-super-Mare, England called Dismaland. The park will be open for six weeks and will include 18 attractions, as well as, starting August 28, musical performances at the Tropicana venue.

The first night of Dismaland’s musical performances will include DJ Yoda and Peanut Butter Wolf performing with BreakBeat Lou, with performances by Run the Jewels, Savages, Pussy Riot, Massive Attack and more on following dates. Along with the performances and attractions, the venue will host artwork from Banksy, Damien Hirst, Jenny Holzer, and Jimmy Cauty.

Banksy released a statement about the park on Dismaland’s official Facebook page, saying:

I loved the Tropicana as a kid, so getting to throw these doors open again is a real honour.

“I hope everyone from Weston will take the opportunity to once more stand in a puddle of murky water eating cold chips to the sound of crying children.”

The new show, named Dismaland in a swipe at Disneyland, is built around a twisted ‘bemusement park’ theme, and follows months of top-secret planning and installation work.

It looks as though Dismaland has already begun sending out invitations to Friday’s opening night, as well.

Chris Green, a reporter for the Independent, has already been granted entry and has been sharing his experiences.
