Someone Recreated N.W.A.’s ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Video Using ‘GTA 5,’ And It’s Off The Hook

As you probably already know, the Straight Outta Compton biopic smashed the weekend box office and breathed some much needed life into August. Sooner or later, a mashup of some sort was inevitable, and that moment is happening now. The internet already memed itself into oblivion over the film’s celebration of N.W.A., and Grand Theft Auto 5 wanted in on the action. YouTube user AnimalRobot did the honors, and the results are spectacular.

Grand Theft Auto has always drawn much inspiration from West Coast gangsta culture, so this mashup makes much more sense than any of the other ones — including King of the Hill, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Arthur, Breaking Bad, and Superman — in recent memory. Plus, those crafty gamemakers modeled the Lance “Ryder” Wilson character after the late Eazy-E in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Now the influences have come full circle.

This mashup isn’t a shot-by-shot replication, of course. Fewer creepy cop mustaches appear, and the running is slower than slow-mo, but the final product works as a re-imagined tribute. It’s the video with extra juice, yet it’s close enough to the original to get the people going.
