Not To Be Outdone, Father John Misty Is Also Covering Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’

As you’ve probably heard by now, Ryan Adams has released his highly anticipated cover album of Taylor Swift’s 1989. Not to be outdone, Father John Misty has given us his “interpretation from the classic Ryan Adams album ‘1989’.” Ryan Adams’ 1989 hasn’t even been out a day and it’s already getting re-imagined by another musician.

So far Father John Misty has released his covers of “Welcome To New York” and “Blank Space” in the style of The Velvet Underground. He has since deleted them both from his Soundcloud, but you can still hear “Blank Space” above. Even though Misty is just trolling Ryan Adams and the hysteria surrounding the 1989 cover album, his Lou Reed impression is actually quite impressive.

With nothing more than a cheap recorder and his guitar, Misty’s covers are the ultimate troll job. It should be interesting to see how this Father John Swifty trolling turns out; hopefully we get some sort of rebuttal from Adams soon. No word yet from Swift on whether or not Father John Misty’s music helped shape her songwriting.
