Celebrities, they’re just like us. Case in point: Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson has been holding on to an urge to punch Axl Rose square in the jaw since the late ’80s.

In a recent interview with Le Journal de Montréal, Dickinson recounted the particular event that made him feel all punchy. Apparently, Guns N’ Roses were opening for Maiden at a Quebec City show in 1988, and Rose made fun of the largely French-speaking crowd.

Dickinson said he wanted to sock Rose for talking down to his audience, and regrets not doing it when he had the opportunity.

“I should have come onstage and given him a punch. How could he dare speak to my audience in that way? I always regretted not having done so.”

That’s far from the only colorful interview Dickinson has given surrounding the release of Maiden’s new album Book of Souls. Last week, he talked openly about his battle with cancer, and claims that the cancer formed due to HPV which he contracted from oral sex.

Everybody makes the jokes about Michael Douglas ’cause he was having oral sex, and it’s just, like, okay, we need to get over that one, guys, because this is kind of serious. There’s hundreds of thousands of people at risk for this. And guys should know, if you get a lump here, and you’re over 40, don’t just assume antibiotics will get rid of it. Go and properly get it checked out. It’s important.”
