If you thought you’d seen every attempt and mashup you could for Shia LaBeouf’s manic motivational video, you were wrong. YouTube user ILika Da brings himself to the front of the class to share this masterstroke that combines LaBeouf’s shouting (and likely intentionally weird) performance with Daft Punk’s “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.”
And it works, dammit. I feel like I could possibly lift the back of truck, fail at lifting the truck, claim the truck is a hack, apologize to the truck via a skywriter, wear a bag on my head saying I’m not a truck lifter, and then regret ever stepping foot into this awkward attempt at humor. No need to work on growing a sweet Jedi padawan-tail, though, as I’ve already got one of those.
It can’t be a coincidence that this song has worked well for two troubled artists since being released by Daft Punk in 2001 (or we can give the credit to Edwin Birdsong). Kanye West crafted his own popular tune out of it and now, Shia has probably reached the point he intended when he first got the idea to shoot this motivational beast in front of a green screen. Pure parody that is swallowing it’s own slimy tail.
